How Hypnotic Rapports Are Used in Hypnosis

September 10, 2009

Hypnosis is an intriguing and rather complicated process because it involves a rapport between the subject and the hypnotist. When you are submerged into a hypnotic trance, you will be opened to suggestions. Your unconscious will be opened to new thoughts and experiences.

The term rapport is not only used for hypnosis. It represents a conversational contact. The rapport developed between the subject and the hypnotist is an instrument for a good conversational hypnosis technique.

Hypnosis must not be understood as a casual relationship between persons. It is more than that as it represents a deep connection. Anything the hypnotist feels it is unconsciously projected over to the subject in the hypnosis state. This is why it is quite important to learn all the necessary rapport skills and what is normal and what it is not.

Hypnotic rapport is a kind of relationship that has passed the test of time. We may not fully understand it but it is very powerful and long lasting. This means that when a person is in a trance they will embark on a deeper connection with you and also with your unconscious mind. For all of this, trust and a sense of comfort are paramount.

The “go first” concept is very important if you want to become good at what you do. This means that the hypnotist will enter first in the environment and he will experience whatever his subject must experience. It is very important to do that because only in this way you will be able to realize the experience that the subject will have and recognize his signals when he is in the trance. In time, you will develop an unconscious connection with the subject and his mind will be more opened to your suggestions.

The connections part of hypnosis is powerful as it allows the subject to explore thoughts and ideas that he has never had before, with the help of the hypnotist. It is just like in a normal relationship. Sometimes we connect faster and sometimes slower or not at all. You must be able to make your subject feel comfortable around you. He must not attempt to hide this thoughts from you and keep an open mind.

On the other hand, there were also times when you could connect easily with someone and those persons responded well and so did you. Does this mean you have a split personality? Not at all. This is just how people are. A person who is confident, trusting and feels comfortable with itself will pass these signals on an unconscious level to the other persons around him. This ultimately leads to a successful connection.

In hypnosis this is what you have to do: be open minded and have a great rapport with the subject so that the subject will react to your receptiveness. A great rapport leads to success as a hypnotist and this is what you will have to aim for by using the “go first” method.
