Using the Rapport in Hypnosis
January 20, 2011
An important tool which can be used in hypnosis, the rapport allows you to advance your use of hypnosis to the next level.
In order to be a good hypnotist, you need to understand how to create a great rapport with your subjects, which will help with the development of a deep relationship. Comfort and trust are two of the benefits of creating a good rapport. One of the skills included in the rapport is the ability to communicate ideas and feelings to one another.
A traditional form of rapport is something everybody knows how to develop. Family, clients, friends, are all people you create rapports with, and the types of rapports differ with each one. Compliments, being nice, finding common interests, are just some of the ways you build rapports with others.
Understanding the way a rapport works will allow you to do it better in different circumstances. If you don’t understand how it works you might try to use it when it’s not appropriate and the relationship might fail or backfire. What you should remember is that people are looking for others that remind them of themselves.
This is why you should experience together similar situations. It allows you to make connections at deeper levels. That’s because our lives are basically just experiences. Common experiences allow people to feel like they are in a safe environment.
It’s very important that your subject feels comfortable and safe. If the rapport is started successfully using this method, you are able to dig into the relationship deeper at a faster pace. The end result is a trusting and strong relationship.
Still, a rapport built for hypnosis purposes is not the same as the traditional rapport. You basically need to get a deep relationship faster than it’s normal with a regular rapport.
Some of the ways you can use the rapport in hypnosis is by wide rapport, fractionating, matching and mirroring or by storytelling.
The fractionate rapport is about helping the subject to work in order for the rapport to keep going. Your fullest attention should be given to the subject in this case. After that, get distracted and take away your attention. If the subject tries re-engaging you, the foundations for the rapport are established.
The wide rapport is the second method you can use. You are basically offering the subject a number of different experiences in a number of different environments. Meeting in a number of different places is what this type of rapport is about.
When you want to build rapport with a person, storytelling can be a great method to do it. By telling him stories, they experience a number of different realities, so they become more comfortable when it comes to interactions with you. This method builds up the trust and they will open their mind easier.
The last method that we’re going to talk about is Matching and Mirroring. This type of method is when you are mimicking someone’s body language, actions, signals or hand gestures. This creates a connection at an unconscious level with the subject.
However, if they realize your are mirroring them, they will become uncomfortable and annoyed, so try to make it subtle.
Communicating through hypnosis is not the same as a normal form of communication. There are many different techniques which can be used to communicate with subjects while building your relationship with them.
